TRURO, NS—With online dating apps dominating the scene in 2022, it is not uncommon to find that someone has misrepresented their looks when finally meeting in person.
Stacey Wilhelm found herself in such a situation on Saturday night, finally giving up and agreeing to a date after being underwhelmed by the Tinder profile—a maritime classic—a man holding a freshly caught fish.
Much to Wilhelm’s surprise, upon showing up to the restaurant, she had unknowingly agreed to a date with the fish being held by the man in the profile. “Honestly, it was very refreshing,” Wilhelm said to The Mackerel. “Just like every other single woman in Truro, I’m over the whole maritime fisherman trope. But to finally meet the star of Nova Scotian tinder, the fish himself—I was kind of starstruck,” she continued.
Unfortunately, the date ended poorly with the fish fleeing the restaurant in distress after Wilhelm ordered caviar as a main. According to Wilhelm, the fish’s tinder bio read “Not looking for hook-ups,” which she now believes to be referring to fishing rod avoidance, and not casual sex.
