HALIFAX, N.S. — In a huge upset to Dalhousie University’s casual non-competitive mixed-gender intramural ultimate frisbee league, the star player of Team Suck My Disc is retiring just before the championship game.

Corbin Markov is the top scorer of the league, having scored a staggering 60 per cent of the team’s points throughout the season. Why is he quitting? He says he can’t take the pressure from fan.

“Every game it’s ‘Go, Markov! You got this!” says Markov. “And I’m like, ‘What if I don’t got this? What if I’m just barely holding it together?’

“To feel the weight of the fan base on my shoulders before our biggest match against our strongest competitors … It’s too much for any one man to bear.”

The other team playing in the final is Panic at the Discus, who advanced by default after other teams forfeited.

Attending Suck My Disc’s semifinal game, the Mackerel was able to land an interview with the sole fan in the bleachers of the gymnasium, Gail Breune.

“Oh, me? I’m just here because my roommate’s the referee,” says Breune. “She’s my ride home from campus.

“I wouldn’t really describe myself as a fan. I usually just watch the first five minutes and then doomscroll until the game is done.”
