Following the news that off duty HRP officers were being employed part-time at the Quinpool Superstore, hiring manager Shelby Washburn claims she has received a near constant stream of applications from resident assistants. Grocery store RA positions have never been formally advertised or acknowledged by Loblaws.

In one application, RA Rebecca Kotler outlined how while she isn’t qualified to serve as a police officer, her 2 years as an RA at Dal have given her all relevant background experience. “Putting my life on the line to protect the community just comes naturally,” claims Rebecca.

Kotler’s cover letter outlined her plan to implement informative bulletin boards to reduce theft. Potential bulletin board flyers she proposed include:

  • Stop Stealing: The Top Ten Benefits of Hunger!
  • How to be complacent in learning that Loblaws had an increased revenue of 390 million dollars in Q1 2022 while more and more of your friends and loved ones fail to keep up with inflation.

Washburn says Superstore will seriously consider bringing on several of the RA applicants, explaining, “Listen, no one knows how to scan in honeycrisp apples as green onions at the self checkout quite like a university student— we need an inside man for the job.”
