HALIFAX, N.S. — Do you feel things on campus are getting too boring? Your friends all dropped out after the first semester, the sights and sounds of campus have grown dull, and you’re too young (or old) for The Dome. But what else is there to do around here? You’re in luck, the Mackerel has gathered a list of the three most unique spots to hang out near Dalhousie University campus, where you can invite your friends or make new ones!

1. Quiet area in the Killam

This is one of the best areas on campus to meet new people. The silence makes sure all attention is on you, and potential friends won’t be distracted, even if you’re a little boring. Your fellow students are sure to be amused by any conversation you bring to the table! In fact, you’re providing a public service by relieving them of the boredom of studying. Expect many stares of gratitude as students listen in, and just know that they are envying your main character energy. Beginners in this space will want to stay on the second floor of Killam, but you can bring the party to the stacks on the third and even fourth floors.

2. On the street corner

Are you crossing? Are you not? Create a mystery for passing cars. The closer you stand to the intersection, the better. You may even notice drivers slowing down to admire the fun you’re having. The street corner is best enjoyed with a group of friends and good conversation. Need a cigarette? Pick up a butt off the curb! Need a snack? There’s a discarded snack wrap in the trash! It’s the perfect place to end a hangout, but the freezing wind and honking horns make it easy to enjoy at any time. If you get bored on one corner, don’t worry, there’s another one right across the road! You’ve got a lot of options here, so the Mackerel has taken the liberty of compiling some of our editor’s favourite corners to hang out on in case you’re overwhelmed by the choices: Robie Street and Coburg Road, South Street and LeMarchant Street and University Avenue and Robie. If we’ve missed any of your favourite street corners, be sure to write in and let us know what makes your corner so special.

3. At the bottom of the stairwell

Pick a stairwell, any stairwell, and invite all your friends. The scenic environment, with its AI posters and peeling paint, is sure to elevate any hangout. You are creating an adventure for your peers, who will enjoy the surprise maze as they navigate the usually mundane journey between classes. If you need to move, make sure to do so as slowly as possible and stay in front of other people, so they know that you want to spend time with them. The stairwell is perfect for killing time between classes, and you’re sure to meet lots of people.

If you hang out at any of these places, let us know how it goes. And if you have any unique spots of your own, make sure to share them with us!
