HALIFAX, N.S. — Dalhousie University has been under a microscope lately due to ongoing contract negotiations between the Dalhousie Faculty Association and the Dalhousie board of governors, resulting in a faculty lockout. However, in what has been called  “a stroke of genius,” “the best idea since sliced bread” and “completely unnecessary,” Dalhousie is collaborating with Labubu, the Gen Alpha Furby that took the world by storm this summer.

The collaboration will feature a brand new mystery box featuring nine different Dal-themed Labubus. This includes a Dal Tiger, a King’s student, a commerce bro and a DFA lockout Labubu with protest signs included, to name a few. The exclusive collaboration will be available at the Dal Bookstore, with the hope that the revenue generated will balance out the loss of revenue from students not needing to buy textbooks.

The collaboration has been met with mixed reactions from the public.

“This is just a clear attempt to change the type of press the school has been getting lately,” said Marsha Ledoux, the mother of a second-year commerce student. “I mean, seriously, what type of idiot would fall for this?”

“I need all nine,” said Marcel Ledoux, a second-year commerce student. “I want DFA lockout Bubu so bad I am breaking out in a nervous rash.”

Rish Aquino, of the Rowe Marketing Association, feels that the move is “inspired.”

“Labubu is like the hottest name on the market right now,” said Aquino. “I just hope they didn’t capitalize on it too late in the trend. There is literally nothing worse than when a company or brand tries to jump in on something trendy after the popularity has died down, and it just comes across as so cringey and dated.”

Whether the reactions are positive or negative, it is certain that the collab has gained quite a bit of traction, with places like Jubilee Junction and Triple A Convenience already selling knockoff Dalhousie Lafufus.
