HALIFAX, NS — A Dalhousie University professor has made news this week for their unconventional final exam. Keegan Prong is a psychology professor here at Dal, and in their Psychology of Personality course, the final exam follows the format of a BuzzFeed personality quiz.
The exam has stirred up some backlash, as many students did not agree with the ‘What mark will you get based on your personality type’ format. Some students were upset by the unpredictable nature of the exam, while others had complaints that the exam was “too millennial.”
“That exam was rigged. How am I supposed to know the right answer to ‘what kind of cinnamon bun are you?’. It’s just insane,” said Connor Starch, a student in the class. “Clearly, I have a failing personality. When I finished the exam I got a message that said ‘You got a 10 per cent. Stupid idiot.’ How was I supposed to know that when I’m asked what One Direction member I am, Liam is the wrong answer?”
On the other hand, some students were happy to take advantage of the exam’s format. “I knew I would get a perfect score. When I saw the question asking what Hogwarts house I would be in, I thought to myself; ‘I’m a slytherin. I’ve got this exam in the bag,’” said Lucille Clemont, a third-year psychology student in the class.
In a statement to The Mackerel, Prong explained their rationale for the bizarre exam format. “I thought it would be fun! I’m hip, I know what the kids like these days. It also made the marking scheme much easier: the more I like people with your personality type, the better you’ll do.”
Future students may only hope they have the right personality type for success in this course.
