HALIFAX, NS— Engineering professor Glen Daniels refuses to let anything get in the way of his students’ learning. The past year has been fraught with difficulties for Daniels, from hurricanes, to power outages, to summer vacation, but despite all obstacles put in his path, Daniels continues his mission to educate the students of Dalhousie University.

Talking to former students of Daniels, The Mackerel discovered that the instructor has been holding his winter semester classes well past April, reportedly holding his final exam as late as July. He holds his fall semester classes every Saturday to make up for time lost due to lack of summer vacation. When asked why they continued to attend outside of scheduled times, one student, who wishes to remain anonymous, reported that attendance in Daniels’s courses accounts for 90 per cent of the final grade, with the final 10 per cent being awarded to students who arrive early to class.

Daniels has, however, been kind enough to allow students to attend class via Zoom in case of unforeseen circumstances, such as the recent Hurricane Lee. Students affected by the power outages were out of luck, however, and are already grappling with having to retake his class next semester.

Multiple students have reached out to Dalhousie University administration regarding Daniels, however they have all been told that “Professor Daniels is tenured so there is nothing that can be done” and to “check Rate My Professor next time”.

When asked about his controversial decisions Daniels told The Mackerel, “When I was in university we didn’t have things like ‘hurricanes’ and ‘summers’ and ‘illness.’ My colleagues allow students too much freedom, and l refuse to participate in this millennial nonsense.”
