HALIFAX, N.S. — Ever since rental scooters have popped up in the city, it has shortened many Gen Zers’ five minute commute into a two minute commute. Nothing quite says “I’m late for class” like a frantic scooter rider weaving through pedestrians at the exact pace a brisk walker might achieve. Let’s just make sure you look good on that scooter after your parents have already spent hundreds of dollars for you to ride it. Here are five ways to look cool while riding your electric scooter to campus.

5. Headphones on

Nothing quite screams “I’m in a rush” like putting on your headphones and locking in. Regardless of who you pick as your love interest, headphones on makes you a little bit more mysterious. Add that onto a scooter and everyone knows you like to keep your days full of interesting places to be.

4. Stance and Ride.

Don’t be that person who rides a scooter everyday yet still looks like they are learning how to ride a push scooter. Keep those feet planted outwards and knees slightly bent. Don’t be afraid to make some space on the back, this will let pedestrians know that you’re looking for someone to take for a spin.

3. Bob and weave.

You know the drill. Weave through those pedestrians and don’t be afraid of the curb (it is not your enemy, it is your friend).

2. Helmet?

Short answer: Yes. Long answer: No. We all know helmets don’t necessarily dazzle potential onlookers, for obvious reasons. If you’re the type to play it safe, yet still want to look cool, you may want to try a padded hat.

1. Ride a bike instead.
