HALIFAX, N.S.— Starting university can be a scary experience. Moving to a new city, surrounded by freaks you don’t know, it is all quite jarring. Luckily for new students at Dalhousie University, The Mackerel has you covered. Here are the three best places for students to make new friends in Halifax.
1. The Stacks
Within the Killam Memorial Library is mostly a place of work, students may expect the main levels to be a social club where you can make friends, however it is only behind rows of books hidden away in the stacks where friendship will find you. Desks are arranged facing away from each other to make things easier on socially anxious students. Find someone sitting in the stacks and strike up conversation, you will make friends in no time. Bonus points for noise here, to help other friends find your location.
2. The Marine Venus Statue
Is that Marine Venus or are you just happy to see me? Hanging near this notable campus landmark will certainly garner a reputation. It may be the reputation of a pervert, but people will know who you are.
3. SMU
Dalhousie University and St Mary’s University are known for their amicable relationship, so there is no better way for a Dal student to make new friends than putting on all their finest Dal merch and hanging around on SMU campus. You are sure to be met with nothing but positivity.
