HALIFAX, NS—Mark Hogan is always looking for new ways to build stronger relationships with his tenants.
“First and foremost I care about people. When a tenant tells me the running water in their apartment isn’t working— boom—two weeks flat and I’m all over it,” said Hogan.
“I know competition builds camaraderie, and that’s why I started the Who Can Pay The Most Rent Contest. It also gives the tenants an opportunity to express how much they appreciate me. I mean waiters and waitresses get tips, why not landlords?” he continued.
Hogan was heartbroken when he recently had to evict a family of blind Syrian refugees in order to sell one of his properties. “What can I say? I had to do it, the market was red hot,” he explained.
