Three generation family are doing door-to-door carol singing. There is a senior woman at the door, appreciating their singing.

HALIFAX, N.S. — It is a special time of year for all of Halifax, as citizens begin to make preparations for Dal Hoco. This year is especially special, as hoco has been recognized as an official holiday within the Halifax Regional Municipality.

This change comes after many restaurant workers lobbied to be paid time-and-a-half on the day of to compensate for any psychological damage sustained from having to serve drunk university students all day.

While Hoco is not an event sanctioned by Dalhousie University, it is recognized by the community as an event to make preparations for. Dal students prepare their jell-o shots for the morning, Dal Admin type up their lengthiest Anti-Hoco email, families board their windows and lock their doors, and to commemorate the first year of having Hoco as an official holiday, the University of King’s College Chorus has been caroling around campus. They have been singing traditional songs such as ‘Dal Tiger Is Coming To Town’ ‘Rockin’ Around The Penis Statue’ and of course, ‘The 12 Days Of Hoco.’

Below one may find the lyrics for ‘The 12 Days Of Hoco’ to sing along with the chorus, and have a happy and safe hoco.

On the twelfth day of hoco

Kim Brooks sent to me,

Twelve tigers growlin’

Eleven hot TA’s

Ten King’s a-smokin’

Nine profs dancin’

Eight landlords scammin’

Seven mice squeakin’

Six police horses

Five cans of Keith’s!

Four midterms

Three Dal Bucks

Two Commerce Bros

And a first year drinking on Jennings!
