HALIFAX, NS—On the first day of every month thousands of couches are left on the street in cities across the country. Though many are tragically sent to the landfill, some heroes choose to help.
On the way to their frat house, Brad Johnson and John Bradson spotted a neglected piece of furniture. The couch, a vintage 2015 IKEA BALKARP, had been left abandoned by its previous owners on Walnut street.
Johnson and Bradson weren’t initially considering adoption. “We’ve been thinking about buying one for a while now, but we’re all kind of broke and none of us have a car. It was like fate brought us to that couch.” Johnson told The Mackerel.
The men say the couch has brought them and their roommates closer. “We used to all eat dinner in our own rooms. Now when we grab a slice of Triple A we can all eat it together in the living room,” says Bradson. “We’re not sure how many people have used this couch before. It sort of smelled like beer when we picked it up. All I know is we’re glad we can be its new forever home.”
