HALIFAX, N.S. — Following his recent win in the mayoral election, Andy Fillmore has revealed his plan to expand the territory of the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The plan was detailed in a press statement released by City Hall early on the morning of January 6th.

In a bid to become Canada’s “Great Municipality,” HRM is hoping to acquire places like Cape Breton, Yarmouth and the entire territory of Nunavut.

“If successful, there will be some name changes involved,” said a city hall representative. “Yarmouth will become known as Darmouth, and Cape Breton will become Spring Garden 2, the big one.”

The proposed expansion has faced controversy from the current residents of each of the proposed expansion zones. One Cape Breton resident claimed there is not a “lobster’s chance in a cage” that Cape Breton will join HRM, while in Yarmouth, hundreds have signed a petition against joining HRM citing only the reason that they do not want to be associated with Dartmouth.

The Mackerel was unable to get a statement from a Nunavut resident, as the territory does not have a large enough population for us to find someone.
