HALIFAX, N.S. —- Exam season is a stressful time for all students, but the stress faced by those enrolled in the University of King’s College’s Foundation Year Program is unique as a result of their oral exams. Luckily for FYP students, the Mackerel has you covered, as usual. Here are five tips to pass your oral exams.
Tip 1: Make sure your breath is fresh
Nobody wants to have a conversation with someone with stanky breath. If your evaluator takes notice of your minty fresh breath, they are more likely to think highly of you, which might just be the difference between a B and an A.
Tip 2: Try not to spit
Let me ask you, Mackerel reader, would YOU want to have a conversation with someone who was spitting all over you? It is just an unpleasant experience, and it can be distracting from the quality of your analysis. The classic saying said it best: say it, don’t spray it.
Tip 3: Avoid use of teeth
Overuse of teeth makes it seem like you are really overemphasizing your words. The people performing your oral evaluation would like to see your teeth when you smile, not when you speak.
Tip 4: Don’t be afraid to gag
This one can be hit or miss, it really depends on what subject matter you are working with. If you are really moved by the content, or if you are discussing Kafka’s Metamorphosis and you cannot contain your disgust, this is a great way to convey your deep emotional response to whoever is evaluating you.
Tip 5: Give the balls some love
