HALIFAX, NS– Many courses here at Dalhousie are designed with content specifically relating to Halifax and the surrounding region. In light of this, and an upsurge in claims that ‘The Dome is Home’, Dalhousie has revealed that starting in the 2023 Fall semester, a Home Economics course will be taught at The Dome.
The recent announcement also stated that the course will be taught by DJ Splitz, a frequent DJ at the nightclub. In a statement to The Mackerel, Splitz revealed some of the course curriculum.
“Home Economics is based on seven principles- cooking, child development, education and community awareness, management and home design, sewing and textiles, budget and economy, and health and hygiene. In our course we are remixing the content to be geared towards the economics of a university home.” Splitz said.
“For our unit on budget and economy, we teach students about drink deals in Halifax, happy hours, power hours, you name it. For sewing and textiles we are hosting an anything but clothes party, and you’ll get extra credit if ten friends buy tickets with your presale code. This will lead right into our child development unit on taking care of your drunk friends”
However, the course has faced backlash for making attendance mandatory and requiring a fifteen dollar cover at each class. Dalhousie administration plans to roll out the course as intended, and encourages students to add it to their September schedule.
