HALIFAX, N.S.— The fall semester of the 2024 school year has seen the most diverse set of first-year students in the history of Dalhousie University. One student in particular caught the attention of the public eye.
Jack-Jack Wilson is a first-year student at Dal who has broken records for being the youngest student to ever enroll at only 11 months old.
Wilson was enrolled by first time parents Martha Guzman and Colin Wilson, having believed the application for first-year students was in reference to the first year of daycare.
“I did find the application process to be oddly rigorous for a daycare,” said Guzman, “the meal plan was pretty pricey too for only bottle solution and apple sauce, but I thought my boy deserved nothing but the best.”
Despite backlash following Wilson’s enrolment, Dalhousie faculty has remained firm that he is deserving of his spot at the university.
“I was amazed by [Wilson’s] transcript,’ said Serena Edwards, a member of the application review board, ‘It was mostly ABC’s.”
“Not only that, but he wrote a touching essay on facing adversity, he has gone through tremendous loss in his life, having been separated from his parents several times during an intense game of Peek-a-boo.”
Wilson’s professors have come to his defence as well, in particular Antonio Pazzo, a commerce professor at Dal.
“He’s honestly the smartest student I have had in decades,” said Pazzo, “I don’t know if a lot of my students could assemble a wooden puzzle as fast as he does.”
“When I saw my class for the first time, Wilson wasn’t even my first guess of who the 11 month old was.”
Wilson’s list of achievements at the university is expected to grow, as he is slated to join the roster for Dal’s varsity napping team during the winter semester.
