HALIFAX, NS — Bixley LePaige, third year Dalhousie University recreation management student and Risley Hall CAT (Community Assistant Team), was called in for discipline by the Residence Life Team this Friday following questions regarding his unorthodox Orientation Week programming.
Last week, reports were made of a controversial icebreaker activity Paige led with his floor the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 5. LePaige reportedly asked incoming residence students to sit in a circle, to introduce themselves by their name and pronouns, and answer the question “Would you rather have a gay son or a thot daughter?”
First year engineering student Hodge Monksmoor was present Tuesday evening, and told The Mackerel about his experience. “Each person would introduce themselves, and once they answered the question Bixley would yell “yooo” or “no way,” but every time he would do the same thing regardless of the answer. I said ‘gay son’ and he yelled ‘Yoooo, not gay son!’ but then Meyers, from the room next to me, said ‘thot daughter’, and he said ‘Yooo, thot daughter is crazy!’.
It was like hitting buttons on a douchebag soundboard. There are about 20 people on this side of the floor, so it went on for a really long time.” An anonymous member of the Risley Residence Life Team told The Mackerel that they were taking the matter seriously. “It’s an inappropriate question, and it raises the risk that our incoming first years will be led to believe that Dalhousie condones Barstool Sports wannabe clout chasers. Incidents like this can lead to more egregious behaviour, like conducting filmed street interviews or even starting podcasts, so we’re serious about nipping it in the bud.”
The Mackerel caught up with LePaige between classes to request a statement, but in the commotion of the crowded Risley Hall lobby, it was difficult to discern what he was saying.
Our mics picked up the following, “a ten but she has a boy best friend (…) man under six foot (garbled) body count (…) the biggest ick?” before we lost sight of him.
This is not the first time LePaige’s behaviour has been called into question. In the 2023 winter term, LePaige gave campus tours as part of the Dalhousie recruitment team, and received complaints after an alleged incident in which he asked visiting father Quinston McKingsley to rate himself out of ten, and if he thought others would agree with his answer.
The Dalhousie recruitment team declined to comment on the incident, though LePaige is no longer giving tours this year.
