Maritimers are known for having a strange and unique vocabulary. For many Dalhousie students,
understanding the slang your prof uses can be just as difficult as understanding the content they teach.
We at The Dalhousie Mackerel went ahead and created a guide to help students understand the wacky

Pronounced “g-wan”, a response to information that is either unexpected, or unbelievable.

The affirmative inhale
A sharp inhale while saying yes ‘hYea’.

“It’s right cold out,” for example. A replacement for the word “very”. A nod to our roots, stemming from
the Scottish Gaelic word “reit”, meaning “very”.
