HALIFAX, N.S. —  Midterms are a time of stress and anxiety for the Dalhousie community, but a few lucky people seem to have benefitted from these tough times.

“I don’t think I’d seen either of them touch a garbage bag before last week,” says Mary Young her roommates Josie Kelly and Amy MacDonald. The girls’ apartment on Oxford Street has not been cleaned since the three moved there in September. “The night before Josie’s O-Chem midterm I think I even heard her scrubbing the shower,” Young continues.

It wasn’t all positive for Young, however. “With them taking care of everything around the house, it meant I actually had to study. I tried to get around it by cooking them dinner one night, and suddenly Amy was cleaning out my bedroom!” Young claims she was so desperate not to study for her Intro to Psychology midterm that she instead spent an additional  hours studying calculus.

The Mackerel reached out to Kelly for comment, but received no response. MacDonald, however, was happy to provide a statement on her sudden helpfulness.

“It just occurred to me, you know, that this is our home, and we need to treat it with respect. We deserve to live in a clean environment,” said MacDonald.

When asked if she was planning to continue to take care of her environment following midterms she said, “Absolutely not. [Young] will be taking over again after my midterms finish up. [Kelly] and I will chip in again in December.”

Fortunately for Young and the state of everyone’s bedroom floors, final exams are just around the corner, and the vacuum cleaner won’t be put away for long.
